About inquiries

The Inspector-General of Water Compliance is an independent statutory office holder and integrity agency with oversight, monitoring and enforcement functions and powers in relation to the Water Act 2007 and the Murray-Darling Basin Plan 2012.

The Inspector-General plays a vital role in promoting public confidence in the sustainable management of the Basin, one of Australia’s most critical natural resources.

Under Part 10AB of the Water Act 2007, the Inspector-General has the power to conduct inquiries into the performance of functions and exercise of powers of Basin government agencies.
